How to change IP Address

There are many methods by which you can change the IP address of your PC. Some of the methods are very easy. Persons without any technical knowledge can do this. So, let's start with those easy methods:-

1. Turn off your modem for some time (approx 10 minutes). Now check your IP address. if your IP address is changed then its OK. If it is not changed then turn off your modem for approximately 10-12 hours. Now, check your IP address.
2. Just change your internet connection. It will change your IP address too.
3. You can use proxy websites. This will hide your IP address and you will see that your IP address is changed.

If you have some basic computer knowledge then you can switch to some complex methods.

For windows xp and earlier versions

1. Go to "control panel".
2. Right click on "My network places" or "Network neighborhood" and choose "properties".
3. you have to right click on "local area connection" and then choose "properties".
4. Click on "internet protocol (TCP/IP)" and click on "properties".
5. "Internet protocol (TCP/IP) properties" window will open. You have to select "use the following IP address" option if it is not selected and enter the new IP address as you wish. You have to enter "subnet mask" and "default gateway".

For windows vista and later version of windows

1. At first open the "control panel".
2. Now, click on the "Network and sharing center".
3. Click on "view your active network".
4. You have to click on "local area connection".
5. A local area connection status window will open. You have to click on the properties button.
6. Now, select "internet protocol version 6 (TCP/IPv6) or internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" connection and click on "properties" button.
7. An "internet protocol properties" window will open. You have to select use the following IP address option if it is not selected.
8. Enter the new IP address as you wish. You have to enter "subnet mask" and "default gateway" also.

For Linux

1. Go to "shell" 
2. Now, go to "/etc/sysconfig/network" directory.
3. You have to edit the "interfaces" file and adjust the network settings of this file.

A new method

1. Go to the address bar of your browser and type 192.168.1.1
2. Now enter your password (if you have already given a password) if you have not provided a password the default password is admin.
3. You have to release the IP address.
4. Now go to "status".
5. Click on "DHCP release".
6. Go to "Mac address clone" of setup.
7. Click on "enable". After that click on "clone PCs Mac address". Now, save settings.
8. You have to unplug the modem. But don't unplug the router. Keep it plugged in.
9. Go to "status".
10. Click on "DHCP renew".
11. After that plug in the modem. 

Now you have to wait for some time and after that click on refresh. Your IP address is changed.

For Mac OS X

1. Close all the application which is connected to the internet.
2. Now click on "Apple menu" and select "System preferences".
3. Go to "view" menu and select "Netwok" .
4. Now go to the "show" menu and select "active network ports".
5. you have to deselect the checkbox for the port that is used for internet connection.
6. Now, click on "apply now".
7. You have to select again "port" checkbox.
8. Click on "apply now".
9. Open your web browser and open any webpage.

This will change your IP address. If you feel any problem then turn off your modem for some time and then turn it on. Your IP address will change.

How to check your IP address is changed or not

After using above methods, you should check your IP address. I will tell you the simplest method by which you can know your IP address. Just type what is my IP address in Google search box and you will get your IP address. In this way you can check that your IP address changed or not.
